Cambridge CAN (C-CAN) is our CoC’s system of Coordinated Access for people who are homeless in Cambridge. Individuals and Families can complete a C-CAN intake/assessment to join the eligibility pools for Permanent Supportive Housing and/or Rapid Re-Housing programs for which they may be prioritized; to potentially be connected to Housing Navigators that can assist with documentation readiness and housing search; and to receive a range of “soft” referrals to various needs they may have. Click here for a list of participating programs and services.

There are three basic ways to access the system for an intake:

  • Central Access Point at the Multi-Service Center. The Cambridge CAN Specialist offers hours throughout the week dedicated to unscheduled walk-ins, and is also able to schedule intake appointments outside of those times. C-CAN Walk-In Hours — Tuesday & Thursday: 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • Scheduled Field-Based Access Points. These are scheduled times when C-CAN staff are available at community-based host sites to administer intake on a walk-in basis. NOTE: The Scheduled Field-Based Access Points held at the Harvard Square Meal Program and the Friday Café are currently suspended until C-CAN staffing returns to full capacity.

  • Mobile Access Points. C-CAN outreach staff are trained to conduct intake and assessment in the course of their daily work, and are also available to come to clients in the field who are unable to reach another form of intake.
